She dipped it in a bottle of pastels,
And under His watchful eye
She drew a sky with all the colors before her.
A shade of blue glowed on the page,
And in the distance birds cawed.

Once He nodded in approval
Her brush painted a scene of love and silent tears.
Houses appeared on the page,
Each with more meaning then the next.
Gradually the scene changed,
As things do with age.

Her brush faltered,
Painting a scene in all blacks and blues.
She shaded her face until only the tears showed.
The painter stubbornly looked down,
Ignoring the face of beauty looking down a

Glasses that belonged in the '70s rested atop your black,

Little GirlsThere once was a girl,
a wicked young girl,
who never listened to her mother,
nor her father.
She played out with the boys,
tore dresses and picked fights,
until one day, she fell down.
Her mother ‘tsked’ and shook her head,
her father laughed in scorn.

aren’t little girls at all.

HavocHaven’t you ever seen a girl with glass in her skin?
The broken kind: shattered jars and smashed windows,
jagged edges, dip dyed tips red –

warnings lost in a sea of words,
I talk too much when I forget my lines.

FirelightShe was breathless with fireflies
and sleepless nights
amongst lilac caresses
and beneath a moonlit heaven.

She was starlight in the night,
glowing with pink pinched cheeks
and beauty which she stole straight from heaven.

as she smiled wide at the cupped fireflies

I miss you so much. It's an ever present, ever growing, ache in my heart. There is a hole, a vital part of my being ripped away, that is left in your wake. Dear Alex,

I’m writing you this letter,
A letter in a poem,
Because I’m doing this challenge –
A challenge of creativity
And learning.
So I’m writing you this letter.
I guess I have to make it pretty,
Full of the fluff you love so much,
Because I’m composing a poem
After all.

I’m writing you a love letter.
Or a poem,
Whichever you prefer,
Whichever one will help me get the girl.
One day I hope you will hear these words of devotion
Falling forth from my lips
Without petty insecurities clinging to my feelings.

One day I’ll seal this letter with a kiss,
I’ll wear red lipstick for the occasion,
A color you won’t likely forget.
And one day you’ll write me back,
Words of rejection scrawled in your famous hanging indent.
I will read each word in the quiet echo of your voice
